Five Minute Friday: Grit

My friend, Jamie over at Brown Paper And Strings, has been writing and linking to Five Minute Friday with The Gypsy Mama for quite a while. The idea is to write about the given subject for only five minutes without overthinking or editing. {As a former copy editor, this is me internally screaming!!} I've been afraid to try it before considering it usually takes me anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour to write one blog post. However, today I decided to participate. The topic: Grit. {And, yes, it took me the entire five minutes to write these few words. I obviously wasted my time on overthinking. Oh well, there's always next Friday!}

Grit...

that which makes us

uncomfortable

hurt

raw

honest.

Like walking in a pair of shoes with sand between the toes...painful.

We want to remove the cause of what exposes...of what causes us to limp.

The beauty of grit is found in the afterglow it leaves on us.

  1. When I do five minute fridays, I think about it before I type. This seems to work best so then I don't have to type, and delete, and retype, which is what I often do when writing posts. Glad to see you participating. :) I love your post!

  2. I honestly wish I could do a blog post in 30 minutes to an hour, that would be awesome. And you did well, without overthinking in that five minutes. Nice to meet you in the community of FMF.

  3. Great job with your post. I've been linking up to the 5 Minute Friday prompts for a few weeks now and I am really beginning to enjoy what I'm able to write.

    I loved what you wrote: "The beauty of grit is found in the afterglow it leaves on us." So glad you wrote today, Rebekah!

  5. Great job. My blog posts generally take 3-6 hours each as I read and re-read and edit and pray.
    You are a gifted writer if you can do one in an hour. Maybe I over think mine too.
